Eighth Time Recognition for Outstanding Service to Air Force Personnel and Their Families

Vacaville, CATravis Credit Union (TCU) has once again been recognized by the United States Department of the Air Force as the Air Force Distinguished Credit Union of the Year (Large Asset Category) for 2024. This prestigious national honor was announced at the Defense Credit Union Council Annual Conference in Palm Desert, Calif. This marks the eighth time TCU has received this award, underscoring its unwavering commitment to the financial well-being of military personnel and their families.

Founded in 1951 by military and civilian workers at Travis Air Force Base (TAFB), TCU has grown into a regional financial leader while maintaining its deep-rooted mission of serving the armed forces community. The Air Force Distinguished Credit Union of the Year Award highlights the credit union’s outstanding service, innovative programs and dedication to supporting financial readiness for Air Force members, veterans and their families.

In 2024, TCU significantly expanded its support for military financial fitness through the launch of its “Knowledge is Power” campaign, offering free online self-assessments, money personality modules and customized tools to help airmen and their families strengthen their financial literacy. Through in-person briefings at the TAFB Airmen Leadership School and the First-Term Airmen’s Course, TCU reached over 1,000 new enlisted supervisors and first-term airmen. By providing them with a better understanding of personal finance and the Air Force’s Blended Retirement System, TCU helped many begin their journey toward becoming “MillionAirmen.”

Further solidifying its role in the community, TCU was a strong supporter of the 2024 Community Champion Program, which ultimately raised $65,000 in donations to support the Wings Over Solano Airshow and welcomed more than 100,000 attendees. TCU also contributed more than $46,000 to support more than 100 base programs and community events that enhance quality of life, promote morale and honor the service of airmen, veterans and their families.

“We are incredibly honored to once again be recognized by the United States Air Force,” said Kevin Miller, president and chief executive officer at Travis Credit Union. “This award reflects the longstanding trust and relationships we’ve built with our military members. For nearly 75 years, we’ve been committed to empowering our service members and their families through financial education, customized resources and community-based support.”

TCU's continued excellence stems from a strong alignment with Air Force financial education initiatives and its efforts to ensure both active duty and retired personnel have access to free financial resources, including seminars, workshops and one-on-one counseling tailored to military life.
