Solano County Office of Education and Travis Credit Union to Host Youth Financial Literacy Event

April 12, 2024

Youths from Seven Solano County School Districts Will Learn Important Personal Finance Skills

Vacaville, CA – Travis Credit Union (TCU) and the Solano County Office of Education (SCOE) will be hosting a hands-on financial literacy event aimed at empowering teens and young adults with essential financial skills. The primary objective of the event is to simulate the realities of managing financial responsibilities and to educate students on making informed financial decisions.

Participants will learn through an interactive financial simulation designed to provide a realistic experience of managing personal finances in the adult world. Students from seven Solano County school districts will be assigned various real-life scenarios, including occupations, salaries, spouses, children, debt, and credit scores. Through engaging activities, attendees will navigate through the challenges of budgeting, saving, and making financial decisions based on their individual circumstances.

“We're thankful for our ongoing partnership with Travis Credit Union, and we are happy to support their endeavor to help young people gain the knowledge and skills to make informed financial decisions that establish financial well-being,” remarked Solano County Superintendent of Schools Lisette Estrella-Henderson.

“We recognize the importance of equipping young individuals with the necessary financial knowledge and skills to thrive in an ever more complex world,” said Kevin Miller, CEO of Travis Credit Union. “By providing hands-on personal finance experiences like this one, we hope to instill lifelong habits of financial responsibility and empowerment.”

As the 12th largest credit union in California hosting events for the community, such as this one, underscores TCU's commitment to the financial wellness of its members and communities. The event will take place on Saturday, April 13th, from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm at Travis Credit Union's Community Room located at One Travis Way, Vacaville.
