New chip-embedded debit cards in 2017

Coming Soon in 2017

Our new debit cards will have a new look, new technology.

In 2017, we’ll be upgrading all of our Travis Credit Union debit cards with new computer chip technology that improves fraud protection and security. This makes it even harder for your account information to get stolen and for you to become a victim of identity theft.

These EMV (EuroPay MasterCard and VISA) cards use a computer chip that securely stores the card data that’s currently on your card’s magnetic stripe. This makes it nearly impossible for criminals to create a counterfeit debit card. It also allows for a more secure processing by producing a one-time use code for each transaction. In addition to the chip that’s seen on the front, your new-look debit card will continue to have a magnetic stripe on the back for merchants who aren’t yet using the chip-activated terminals.

If a retailer has a chip-activated terminal, simply insert the chip end of your debit card into the terminal face up and follow the screen prompts. You’ll receive a printed receipt once you remove your card. While you don’t need to enter a PIN, you may need to sign for your purchase.

We’ll be issuing these new debit cards throughout next year. If you have any questions about your debit card, please call our Member Service Center at (800) 877-8328 or visit www.traviscu.org/emv-chip-card-FAQs.
