Online statements provide convenience, security

If you have checking/savings accounts or an active credit card at a financial institution, chances are you may also receive paper statements in the mail. If your credit union, credit card issuer or other financial institution gives you the option to access your statements online instead of waiting for them to arrive in the mail, it may be time to consider the benefits of receiving online statements.

Online statements are the digital or electronic versions of your regular monthly or quarterly account statements. They typically look the same as your paper statements but offer the convenience of online access whenever you need to view them. Here are a few reasons why they’re a good choice instead of paper statements:

Security

Other benefits of receiving online statements is that you don’t have to worry about properly disposing of your paper statements once you no longer need them. With the threat of identity theft continuing to be a big concern for Americans, it may be more practical to opt for online statements only. This way, you don’t have to worry about shredding your old statements once you’re done with them or searching for a local shredding event to dispose of them.

Less clutter

Online statements also address the issue of clutter and storage. If your home office is really just the top of your dresser drawer, paper statements can quickly become a pile of clutter, especially if you don’t open and read the statements.

The use of online statements also saves your statement issuer costs in printing and mailing. If you’re a Travis Credit Union member, that means those savings are returned to you in the form of lower interest rates on loans and higher interest rates on deposits.

Convenience and green

Having electronic statements allows you to quickly access your statement history quickly and easily. This is convenient when you have to reconcile your checking account, look up past credit card transactions or review deposits. Online statements also reduce the use of paper, thereby using less natural resources.
