Tax refunds should flow smoothly

Ready for your tax refund? Chances are you won’t have to wait too long to get it.

The Internal Revenue Service announced in January that 90 percent of tax refunds are issued within 21 days.

Of course, this means your tax return, if you receive one, won’t arrive any faster than you think it can.

“As February approaches, more and more taxpayers want to know when they can expect their refunds,” IRS Commissioner John Koskinen said via a press release. “There aren’t any secret tricks to checking on the status of a refund. Using IRS.gov is the best way for taxpayers to get the latest information.”

The IRS provides the “Where’s my Refund?” tool on its website for you to track the status of your refund. However, the IRS advises against checking the tool more than once a day, as updates are only provided one time per day, and that’s usually overnight.

In addition to its website, the IRS has launched the IRS2Go app for Apple and Android smartphones as another way to check the status of your refund, find free tax preparation help and tax tips. For more information, read the full press release on the IRS website.
