Get fit in 2017 with these New Year's Resolutions

It’s almost time to plan your New Year’s resolutions. Topping most Americans’ list is weight loss. Of course, to accomplish that goal, you’ll want to put a plan into place that’s practical and realistic. Here are few ideas to help you get started.

Choose healthy alternatives

Think about healthy options. Water, juices and teas are much better options than diet sodas and wine. Instead of a cinnamon roll when walking through the mall, how about a bottle of water or a fresh apple? If you must order fast food – forego the fries and order a salad or a grilled chicken entrée.

Exercise every day

You don’t need to work out for three hours a day at maximum intensity to remain healthy. If you’re trying to lose weight, sure, the high-intensity workouts will help (along with diet), but moderate-intensity aerobic activity for 30 minutes five times per week – as recommended by the American Heart Association – is good for overall heart health.

Plan a menu and stick to it

Consider a healthy meal plan to follow throughout the week, keeping in mind that if you stick to it and shop ahead, you’ll be more likely to achieve your weight loss goals. Without a meal plan, you could settle for a fast and easy meal option which probably won’t be as healthy. Make a week-by-week meal plan and shop for everything you need in advance.
