Labor Day activities for the whole family

Just as we say our farewells to the summer of 2017, the upcoming Labor Day holiday gives us another reason to celebrate with loved ones. Here are some fun and inexpensive weekend activities the whole family can enjoy.

Hikes

Quality time spent outdoors could be a fun and healthy way to kick off the new school year. Take the kids out on a nature walk along your local hiking trails. Whether you’re planning a recreational hike or if you’re up for a more physical challenge, many hiking spots contain a variety of trails ranging in difficulty. A couple of popular locations are Mission Peak Regional Reserve in Fremont, Calif., Napa County’s Lake Berryessa.

Sporting event

Depending on the team, sporting games vary in pricing, especially around a holiday weekend. If you plan on attending a major or minor league baseball game, it’s a good idea to start comparing ticket prices now. If you still can’t swing it, tailgating is always an option. While a cheaper alternative to the traditional home game, the tailgating experience is like no other – don’t forget the snacks!

Barbeque

Celebrate the final weekends of summer by firing up the grill. The long weekend almost always brings great weather and a good time. Cut back on costs by hosting a potluck inviting guests to contribute. If they’re up for it, haul out your sporting equipment to a local park to enjoy some fresh air and a little friendly competition. Your friends and family will have a blast without going overboard on weekend spending.

Staycation

If you’re on a limited budget, a staycation could be a great option for you and your family. You don’t have to travel far to experience a fun and relaxing weekend. There are plenty of site-seeing adventures out there just waiting to be explored on a long weekend. Some popular Northern California destinations include Lake Tahoe, San Francisco and Yosemite National Park.
