How Our Team Culture Strengthens Member Service
Imagine calling your financial institution with a question about your account. Perhaps you’re buying your first home or trying to manage unexpected expenses. Maybe you’re planning for an early retirement. On the other end of the line is someone who listens carefully and explains your options clearly. You can tell that they genuinely want to help you make the best decision.
That experience doesn’t happen by accident – it’s shaped by the culture of the team and the company they work for.
At Travis Credit Union, we believe the way we treat our employees directly affects how well we serve our members. We provide a supportive, inclusive, and accountable workplace so that our employees are engaged, knowledgeable, and motivated. Inevitably, that translates into better service and advice – and better financial outcomes.
Helping You Helps Us
Since 1951, Travis Credit Union has been focused on helping our members achieve their financial goals. We are a member-owned financial cooperative, and we exist to serve people – not shareholders. Our core values that guide how we operate every day – and we know that when our teams feel supported and respected, they’re better equipped to support you.
Here’s how that shows up:
- Member-First Decisions: Because we’re member-owned, every product, service, and policy is designed to support your long-term financial well-being – not our short-term profit.
- Inclusive Service: We strive to meet our members where they are, and provide guidance and solutions that reflect diverse backgrounds and needs.
- Accountability You Can Trust: Our team takes ownership of doing what’s right, following through on commitments and acting in our members’ best interests.
- Community Impact: Our team invests time, resources, and expertise back into the communities we serve, which – ultimately –strengthens the financial health of our region.
These principles work in concert to create a culture where our employees feel proud of their work, and members feel confident they’re supported by people who genuinely care about their financial future.
Recognized as a Great Place to Work – Officially
In March 2025, Travis Credit Union earned the Great Place to Work® Certification, a recognition that’s based entirely on what employees say about their experience at work though an anonymized survey. The certification reflects the pride and connection employees have with their workplace.
We celebrated this achievement on Certification Nation Day in October 2025, when our credit union joined a global community of organizations committed to exceptional workplace cultures.
Why does this matter? Because it impacts you! Research shows that employees at certified workplaces are far more likely to enjoy coming to work, feel fairly treated, and trust their leaders.
At Travis Credit Union, a whopping 87% of our employees say they feel good about our contribution to the community. They see purpose in what they do – and that goes a long way toward boosting job satisfaction.
“We’re incredibly proud to be recognized for the culture we’ve built,” said Catherine (CJ) Johnson, Senior Vice President and Chief People Officer. “With 87% of our employees saying they feel good about our contribution to the community, this certification reflects who we are and what we stand for.”
What a Strong Team Culture Means Inside TCU
In a great workplace culture like ours, people can do their best work. Our employees are empowered to take ownership of their roles and follow through for members. They feel respected, heard, empowered to contribute in collaboration and decision-making.
When our employees enjoy coming to work and feel supported, you benefit from:
- Better Service Experiences: In this environment, there’s far less turnover, and teams genuinely care about the people they serve. You’re more likely to interact with someone who is patient, attentive, and focused on solving your problem.
- More Knowledgeable Guidance: We encourage our team members to learn and grow in their careers, so their knowledge and expertise stays within the company, instead of walking out the door. Long-tenured, engaged employees understand products, policies, and local member needs more deeply.
- Consistency and Trust: We’re not interested in isolated transactions. Stable teams build long-term relationships that help you realize greater value.
- A Stronger Community Focus: Because our employees believe in our mission, they are more invested in serving the community where they live and work.
In other words, when our employees thrive, our members do, too!
How Travis Credit Union Stands Out
Many financial institutions talk about customer service. At Travis Credit Union, we connect service quality directly to how we treat our people. We’re member-owned, which keeps our focus on long-term member value rather than short-term profits, and we invest intentionally in the employee experience, knowing it directly affects member experience. Importantly, we hold ourselves to external standards to ensure we’re living up to our values.
Being recognized as a Great Place to Work® isn’t a standalone achievement. We have an ongoing commitment to recertification and continued growth. We continue to focus on exceptional service and support – delivered by teams who are proud of where they work and motivated by why they do it.
