In the Community – Fall 2017

The Leaven Tour

Students from The Leaven stopped by to visit Travis Credit Union at our corporate headquarters on July 28 in Vacaville. They learned about the various roles of employees and got to hang out with TCU President and CEO Barry Nelson. We value each and every opportunity to educate our youth about the importance of financial literacy at every stage of life.

Mad City Money at Diablo Valley College

On July 7, we brought our Mad City Money seminar to Pleasant Hill! This popular and long-running program teaches youth basic money skills while simulating the realities of approaching financial responsibilities. It was a pleasure visiting DVC and instilling financial education to local Contra Costa teens.

Vacaville Chamber of Commerce Public Policy Forum

Travis Credit Union hosted a public policy forum with Congressman John Garamendi, State Senator Bill Dodd, Assemblymember Jim Frazier and Supervisor John Vasquez on August 10 at our corporate headquarters in Vacaville. Attendees were invited to discuss the state of business at the county, state, and federal levels of government.

Legislative Meet and Greet with Assembly Member Timothy Grayson

Assembly Member Timothy Grayson representing the 14th Assembly District visited Travis Credit Union on July 20, 2017 for a legislative meet and greet. Travis Credit Union leaders and Assembly Member Grayson discussed issues around breaking the cycle of poverty, reducing predatory lending and the importance of financial education and required soft skills for the future workforce.

Resource Fair

Travis Credit Union was a proud sponsor of the annual Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District (FSUSD) Back-2-School Resource Fair! This year, over 1,200 students were served! It was great to be out with the community passing out financial education material and information on our free seminars.

TAFB Rock the Block Party

On August 4, Travis Air Force Base hosted its annual Rock the Block Festival. Family and service members were treated to a variety of events including live bands, kid’s fun zone and food trucks. The 60th Force Support Squadron and countless others work hard to ensure this event is enjoyable and exciting for every member of Team Travis.

Let’s help others during this Holiday Season

Although it is a little early to think about the holidays, it’s never too early to think about helping those less fortunate. From mid-November through mid-January, Travis Credit Union will be conducting its annual holiday food drive to help the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano.

We encourage you to stop by your nearest TCU branch and donate generously to our food barrels. Through your donation of food, you significantly touch the lives of your neighbors. Here are some of the most requested food items:

Dry beans, Pasta, Tomato products, Canned meat, Fish, Peanut butter, Canned vegetables, Fruit, Powdered milk, Iron-rich Cereal/oatmeal, Pre-packaged meals, 100% Fruit Juice, Rice

Holiday stocking help, too!
During December, we’ll also hold our annual Holiday Stocking Campaign to raise funds for the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN). The money raised from the $1 paper stocking sales at our branches go directly to a CMN-affiliated, non-profit hospital in our community. These local donations help provide the care for children with diseases and injuries at these hospitals.

Together, we can help make a difference in our community.
