Real Estate News – Winter 2019

Energy-efficient home improvement projects raise homeowner’s pride

When you’re a homeowner, chances are your house isn’t exactly how you want it to be. Maybe the kitchen or a bathroom needs updating. Perhaps the windows need replacing. Or, if in an older home, your entire Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system needs an overhaul to keep up with the seasons (and the neighbors next door).

According the National Association of REALTORS® 2017 Remodeling Impact Report, homeowners and renters remodel or redesign their home for a variety of reasons. In 2015, they spent $340 billion on remodeling alone. Homeowners deemed such projects worth the investment and time, raising both their desire to be in their home and increasing their enjoyment about it.

When it comes to HVAC replacement, 56 percent of homeowners said the top reason for doing the project was to improve energy efficiency. And once the project was done, 76 percent of homeowners said they had a greater desire to be home. Another 61 percent said they have an increased sense of enjoyment when they are home because of it.

Energy efficiency projects with our Eco-Friendly Loan

Energy-efficient projects such as replacing your HVAC system not only improve homeowners’ pride but can save you money. Other similar projects include adding dual-pane windows to keep the heat and noise out, installing solar panels to lower energy costs or purchasing energy-efficient appliances to save on electricity and gas bills.

One obstacle for homeowners may be the initial costs of these projects, a few of which can cost tens of thousands of dollars. If tapping into your home equity isn’t an option for you, why not consider Travis Credit Union’s Eco-Friendly Loan. This loan allows homeowners to borrow up to $35,000 to pay for energy-related projects as those mentioned above, as well as to purchase Energy-Star® rated appliances, including refrigerators and washing machines.

Most important, our Eco-Friendly Loan does not require any equity in your home to qualify because it is not a home loan. You can borrow from $1,000 up to $35,000, with loan terms of up to 180 months and rates as low as 6.99%*, depending on your credit.
