Protect yourself from dangerous new car technology

Why buy a new car? It used to be for reasons like – expensive upkeep on an older car, needing a larger vehicle to accommodate a growing family or a midlife crisis inspires a new convertible purchase. In the age of technology, more and more people are interested in buying fully loaded, high-tech cars that include upgraded features like:

Infotainment

It allows you to control audio playback, navigation and in-car apps when behind the wheel. It’s a hot commodity and currently there are no industry safety standards in place.

Internet connectivity and apps

Internet connectivity lets you access navigation, real-time traffic updates, search and more while on the road.

Audio

There are more ways than ever to access music for your drive: AM/FM (now in HD), satellite radio, CD and DVD, in-dash hard drives, portable device integration via USB, Bluetooth or auxiliary inputs, SD cards and streaming music apps.

Navigation

Complete with cloud connectivity, real-time traffic info, local search and compatibility with portable devices.

Sounds amazing, but is it safe?

PROTECT YOURSELF

A new study by AAA says technical distractions ranked higher than talking on the phone while driving. The study reminds us that hands-free doesn’t equal risk-free. The bottom-line is that we must avoid distractions while we drive. Just because technology is within reach doesn’t mean we should use it while we’re driving. We must never forget the importance of staying focused on the road when we’re behind the wheel.

PROTECT YOUR INVESTMENT

If you’re considering purchasing a newer car that comes with high-tech features, you’ll want to protect your investment in the event of an unforeseen accident. Expensive sticker prices and longer loan terms can lead to owing more than the value of your car. If you’re in an accident, this can create extreme financial adversity. Guarantee Asset Protection coverage protects your vehicle loan. If there’s a difference between what you owe on your loan and the value of your vehicle, GAP will help pay that difference based on the terms of your member agreement.

GAP coverage can be purchased at any time during the loan and can be canceled with a full refund within the first 90 days. To learn more, visit www.traviscu.org/GAP, or call our Member Service Center at (800) 877-8328
