Home sales increase during winter

A new report from the National Association of Realtors finds that U.S. existing home sales reached their highest annual rate in six months during January.

A low level of supply helped push prices higher – for their biggest increase since last April, NAR said.

The NAR said that sales are now 11 percent higher than a year ago, for the biggest year-over-year gain since July 2013 (which was 16.3 percent).

This gets 2016 off to a good start, with existing home sales in January at their highest since July 2015. Keep in mind that January is traditionally a slow time for home sales. These numbers certainly point to a strong spring selling season. As the temperatures increase, home sales usually follow a similar path.
