Also, TCU will match up to an additional $4M for donations made to the TCU Foundation

Vacaville, CA –Travis Credit Union today announced that it has launched and implemented its $1 million philanthropic initiative, which was disbursed to local organizations working to provide COVID-19 related relief to non-profits primarily focused on services in the areas of education, youth/family, food banks and small business support. These nearly 100 non-profits in the counties of Napa, Solano, Contra Costa, Merced, and Yolo were notified via personal phone calls, including several from Barry Nelson, president and CEO of TCU.

In determining the donation amount allocated for each agency, TCU considered the organization’s total size, scope of service, statement of immediate needs, as well as all facets of support being offered to local individuals and families impacted by COVID-19.

The $1 million in donations represents TCU’s commitment to serve as a financial institution that truly cares about the community’s financial needs and well-being. In addition, TCU intends to match up to $4,000,000 given to the TCU Foundation from other organizations, corporations and individuals.

Puertas Abiertas in Napa was one of the local nonprofits who received notification of the donation via Zoom call on Friday afternoon. Blanca Huijon, executive director, was on the call to accept the donation on behalf of the organization. Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry was also present to help make the announcement.

“During this time, our Latino community has reached out to Puertas Abiertas,” said Huijon on the call. “More than 400 families are in need of assistance with rent, food, and counseling services. It is even more difficult for the undocumented community.”

During the COVID-19 crisis, Puertas Abiertas has been providing emergency rental assistance and emergency funds to immigrants in the agricultural and hospitality sectors who are ineligible for conventional government assistance.

“My heart is full. I want to thank TCU and Puertas Abiertas for all the things you are doing in this time of crisis,” said Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry.  “We applaud you, Blanca, for being a trusted messenger to the Latinx community in Napa County. We support you, TCU supports you, and I ask everyone to continue living the people helping people philosophy so our vital organizations can continue their great work.”

“We’re hoping this philanthropic initiative encourages other organizations, corporations and individuals to join the TCU Foundation as new community partners, enabling us to do even more to help organizations that are so essential to lessening the impact of the pandemic,” said Nelson. “We ask that you please visit tcufund.org today to become a partner of the foundation, make a much-needed donation, and help raise hope in our communities.”
