Travis Credit Union Forms Hispanic Advisory Committee

(2/03/2014) VACAVILLE, CA — Travis Credit Union, a not-for-profit financial cooperative with twenty-two branches in Northern and Central California has formed a Hispanic Advisory Committee. The Committee will act as a sounding board for the credit union on its Hispanic outreach efforts and provide feedback and guidance to the credit union so that it can better serve its entire community.

“Travis Credit Union has worked hard to demonstrate the credit union difference with our Hispanic members and we are hoping to build further trust with the market by working closely with our Hispanic Advisory Committee,” said Patsy Van Ouwerkerk, president and CEO of Travis Credit Union. “Many in the Hispanic community are unaware of the benefits of membership and we want to change that.”

The Hispanic Advisory Committee is a volunteer group that meets on a regular basis and is comprised of the following members:

  • Maria Alvarez – founder and Principal of the Latin Story, Richmond

  • Marisela Barbosa – Vice President of Monarch Engineering and Development, Inc., Vallejo

  • Maria Cisneros – Napa Valley Unified School District and Principal of Valley Oak High School, Napa

  • Oscar Dominguez – Executive Director, Contra Costa County Small Business Development Centers, Pleasant Hill

  • Josie Enriquez – Case Management Supervisor, Yolo County Family Resource Center, Woodland

  • Alex Gomez – Executive Director, West Contra Costa Business Development Center, Richmond

  • Rick Gonzales – President, Mexican American Concilio of Yolo County, Woodland

  • Edgar Lampkin – Director of English Language Learners, Yolo County Office of Education, Woodland

  • Dr. Guido Minaya – CEO and Partner, Minaya Learning, LLC, Fairfield

  • Armando Tam – Owner of Viva Magazine, Concord

“Travis Credit Union is undertaking a most important initiative regarding a significant and growing segment of our Bay area communities. The recently launched Hispanic Advisory Committee has the promise of providing Travis Credit Union with insights regarding the financial and cultural needs of the Latino community,” stated Dr. Guido Minaya. “The ultimate goal is to further enhance services to this demographic helping the community achieve financial sustainability by meeting financial goals. I am honored to serve with distinguished Latino colleagues and Travis Credit Union leadership members on this initiative.”

In addition to having bilingual staff at it twenty-two branches, Travis Credit Union also offers savings and checking accounts, loans, financial education and more. It is a not-for-profit financial cooperative that returns its earnings to its members in the form of low fees and high returns on their deposits.

“We offer a variety of financial services to our members and want to make sure we’re delivering what our Hispanic members want and need,” said Sherry Cordonnier, director of corporate relations at Travis Credit Union. “Our mission is to improve people’s lives by changing the way they think about their financial aspirations, by helping them manage their financial resources and achieve their financial goals — our Hispanic Advisory Committee will help us accomplish this.”
