Verify you are downloading the correct file type
Visit our Online Banking website, login with your
account and PIN number and verify that you are downloading
the correct type of file.
The file should be a Quicken Financial Exchange (QFX) file. Some financial
institutions also offer Open Financial Exchange (OFX) or Quicken Interchange
Format (QIF) file. (Support
for QIF import has recently changed.)
If you can download a
QFX file from your financial institution,
they are supported by Quicken.
FIGURE 1

Does this change to the QIF Data Import functionality affect
Quicken 2004 for Windows and earlier?
No, there will be no change to the QIF Data Import functionality for users
on Quicken 2004 for Windows and earlier. Quicken for Mac customers also will
not be affected by this change at this time.
Why will QIF Data Import not be available for certain
accounts?
QIF technology is over 10 years old and was
designed for technical support purposes, it was not for transaction
download. QIF Data Import requires many steps to download, is a poor
customer experience and can lead to duplicate transactions and errors.
Intuit wants to provide customers with the best possible download experience
available as well as support the ongoing industry transition to OFX (Open
Financial Exchange). OFX is the industry standard for transaction downloads
and offers easier, quicker setup. OFX was introduced in 1997 and first
supported by Quicken in Quicken 98.
Why OFX?
OFX offers customers an easier, faster and more accurate download
experience. Many banks, credit card, brokerage and 401(k) companies support
OFX and now connect to Quicken for automatic data downloads.* See below to
see that your Financial Institution supports download into Quicken.

Quicken
no longer recognizes the correct account to update
If the account you want to update already exists in Quicken but you can't
select it when importing, Quicken does not recognize the account you are
updating. The procedure below shows how to resolve this issue.
1.
Deactivate the online functions of the account for the account
you want to update in the Quicken software.
2. Visit your financial institution's Web site, and then click
the link on that site to download your Web Connect data into Quicken.
3. Click Use an existing
Quicken account, and then choose the account from the list
provided.
4. Click the Continue
button. your recent account history will be transmitted from your financial
institution to your Quicken software.
5. Once the transmission is complete, Quicken will open the
Online Center or Online Update Summary. Click
Compare to Register or
Go to Register.
At this window, you can accept your recently downloaded transactions into
your Quicken register.
Empty the Temporary
Internet Files folder
If your temporary Internet files folder is large or near it's capacity,
you may not be able to import a QFX file. The most common situations are you
click to download the QFX file and nothing happens or a dialog flashes
briefly on your screen
If you use Internet Explorer 6.0, the following procedure shows you how
delete files from the Temporary Internet Files folder. You may still be able
to use these steps as a general guide for other Web browsers, but you should
consult the manufacturer's instructions for your browser if you need
additional assistance.
1. Start Internet Explorer.
2. Choose Tools menu > Internet Options.
3. Click Delete Files
and click OK to the Delete files prompt.
The file
association may have changed or been corrupted
Windows uses file associations to identify which program should handle a
type of file. If your file association is not correct or damaged, you may
not be able to complete a Web Connect online banking session.
If you use Windows 2000, Windows Me, and Windows XP, the following
procedure shows you how to reset file associations. You may still be able to
use these steps as a general guide for other operating systems, but you
should consult the manufacturer's instructions for your operating system if
you need additional assistance.
1. On your desktop, double-click My Computer.
2. Choose Tools menu > Folder Options.
3. Click the File Types
tab.
4. In the Registered file types
list, select the QFX Quicken OFX data. You can Press
"Q" on your keyboard to move to the Q section of the
list, or you can use the scroll bar.
5. Click Delete
to remove the file type association.
6. Restart Quicken, and click Yes
when Quicken asks whether to make Quicken the default Web Connect
application. This step automatically recreates the file association.
7. Try again to download transactions with Web Connect.
The QFX file contains errors
In rare cases, the QFX file itself contains incorrect information. If you
need to, you can download the QFX file and view the contents to troubleshoot
any errors. However, this step is not usually necessary and should only be
done with the assistance of your financial institution.
1. In Quicken, choose Edit menu > Preferences >
Quicken Program.
2. In the Select preference type
list on the left, select Web Connect.
3. In the Select preferences
list on the right, select both check boxes.
4. Click OK.
5. Visit your financial institution's web site and download as
normal.
6. Save the QFX file on your computer.
7. Open the file in a text editor such as Notepad and review
the contents for accuracy.
